There is no foolproof way of identifying a catphisher. Since every conversation is different, here is what to look for:

IN A HURRY TO GET OFF THE SITE: The longer catphishers are on our site, the more likely they are to get caught. They will be in a hurry to start communication through email, messenger or phone right away.

FROM ANOTHER PLACE: Catphishers tend to give reasons to try and explain why they are currently in your area, such as on vacation, visiting someone, etc.

THEY WILL TALK ABOUT TRUST: A catphisher may express how important trust is to them and to a relationship. They are prepping you for a request for money or to join another site that they will promise to pay back or you won’t be charged for. Beware of anyone who needs you to join another website before she will meet you.

ASKED TO SIGNUP ELSEWHERE: Catphisers will ask you to join another site to see photos of them, or to pass security security/safety checks they request prior to meeting in person. This is a clear sign that the user you are speaking with is attempting to catphish you.

WRONG GENDER: A catphiser in many cases will be using accounts with the wrong gender that you are not looking for, such as male accounts, but then try to explain they are really a female.

INABILITY TO MAKE SMALL TALK: Try having a real conversation. A catphisher doesn’t know the current events. Try discussing the topics or news of the day, and the catphiser will change the topic.

KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT CREDENTIALS PRIVATE: Never share or use your Site Credentials with any users inside the site or on external sites asking for them such as your, Handle, Password, or Email.

  • Meet in public places with lots of people.
  • Let family or friends know your plans. Have them check up on you from time to time. If possible, have someone be close by.
  • Get your own transportation.
  • If you get a bad vibe, end the meet. Don’t do anything which you don’t want to do.

Online Safety https://help.adultfriendfinder.com/knowledgebase/online-safety/ Fri, 26 Mar 2021 00:43:44 +0000 https://wordpresscd.adultfriendfinder.com/?post_type=manual_kb&p=2957 Always use your judgement and put your safety first when you are meeting people online or in person.

Communicate on the platform

It is always exciting to meet someone new. Try to keep the conversations on our website while you are getting to know the person. Please fight the temptation to exchanging personal contact information until you feel safe doing so.

Don’t share personal information

You should never share your personal information such as where you work, your home address, family member’s name, social security, etc. with people you just met.

Don’t fall into financial trap

Scammers will pretend to be in major trouble such as medical emergency and will ask for money to help them. No matter how dire the situation is, do not send them any money. Some scammers may offer to send you money and ask for your bank information. Don’t provide it.

Safeguard your account

Protect your account with strong password.

Setup security questions for your account by completing these steps:

  1. Mouse over “My Stuff” and click on “Edit My Profile”
  2. Under “Manage My Account” section, click on “Security Questions” and complete the security questionnaires. When done, click “Update” button.

Report bad behavior or suspicious activity

We want to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. When you suspect something bad, please block the member account and report it to us immediately by clicking on “Report Abuse” which is located at the bottom of every page (footer), on member profiles and messaging platforms. Please provide the suspected username, reason and your comment.

Some example violations include

  • Anything involving minors
  • Harassment or making threats
  • Scammer accounts
  • Solicitation for services
  • Anything which violates our site terms of use.

Protect Your Account

Be sure to pick a strong password, and always be careful when logging into your account from a public or shared computer. We will never send you an email asking for your username and password information — if you receive an email asking for account information, report it immediately.
